Chongqing focuses on eight new chemical material industry chains: polyamide, polyurethane, biodegradable plastics, etc.


On August 3, the Chongqing Municipal Government released the "14th Five-Year Plan for the High-Quality Development of Chongqing's Manufacturing Industry (2021-2025)" on its website. Chongqing will cultivate and build trillion-level electronic information, 500-billion-level automobile, 300-billion-level equipment, 600-billion-level materials, 500-billion-level specialty consumer goods and 100-billion-level biomedical industry clusters.

The Plan proposes that Chongqing will build an internationally competitive industrial base for polyamide materials and polyurethane materials. In terms of new chemical materials, eight major industrial chains will be built, including polyurethane, polyamide, polymethyl methacrylate, polyester, polyolefin, polycarbonate, polyformaldehyde and biodegradable plastics.

We will take advantage of the local production capacity of MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) and AA (adipic acid), strengthen the planning and construction of epoxy compounds and polyether polyols, and promote the further expansion of production capacity of existing enterprises in the fields of PTMEG (polytetrahydrofuran) and polyurethane resin to improve and expand the polyurethane industry chain.

1、Relying on the local AA (adipic acid) production capacity advantage, strengthen the planning and construction of ADN (adiponitrile)-HDA (adipamide), nylon 66 salt (adipic acid adipamide salt), nylon 66 (polyhexanediyl adipamide) and other products, and actively attract and nurture enterprises in the fields of long carbon chain nylon and high temperature resistant nylon to build a polyamide industry chain.

2、Relying on the advantages of the local MMA (methyl methacrylate) project, we will strengthen the planning and construction of raw material projects such as acetone, expand the production capacity of MMA, and actively attract enterprises in the field of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) to build a polymethyl methacrylate industry chain.

3、Relying on the local PTA (terephthalic acid) conditions, strengthen the planning and construction of raw material projects such as EG (ethylene glycol), PG (propylene glycol) and BG (butylene glycol), promote enterprises to further enhance PET (polyethylene terephthalate) production capacity, accelerate the development of PET engineering plastics products, and build a polyester industry chain.

4, relying on acetylene, vinyl acetate products and technical advantages, the development of VAE (vinyl acetate - ethylene copolymer), EVA (ethylene - vinyl acetate copolymer), T-PVA (thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol) resin, PVB (polyvinyl butyral) resin, EVOH (ethylene -vinyl alcohol copolymer) resin and other polyolefin industry chains.

5、Relying on the dimethyl carbonate project, combined with the planned construction of MTO (methanol to olefin) project and acetone project, planning the development of bisphenol A project to build a polycarbonate industry chain relying on methanol resources and POM (polyoxymethylene) technology advantages, expand the scale of POM.

6. Relying on local acetylene resources, develop BDO (1,4-butanediol), PBAT (polybutylene adipate/butylene terephthalate)/PBS (polybutylene succinate) and other downstream links to grow the scale of degradable plastic products.

According to the Plan, Chongqing will take advantage of local natural gas (shale gas) resources and methanol production capacity to strengthen the planning and construction of MTO projects and BDO projects, and actively strive for the landing of natural gas application demonstration units to ensure the supply of raw materials for synthetic materials. It will promote the development of industrial uses for ammonia/urea producers and the planning and construction of downstream application projects for chlorine and methanol products, and make every effort to achieve local consumption and reduce the amount of outbound transportation.

Chongqing will also make use of the characteristics of chemical products with many functional factors to develop fine chemicals. Facing the development needs of industries such as electronics and automobiles, it will actively attract and nurture enterprises in the fields of chemicals for electronics and new coatings.
